Upper Outer Drive Demolition - September 2025

MEM on the Move: Demolition of upper outer drive underway as lower level commercial lane opens

In the most visible show of terminal modernization yet, demolition of the upper outer drive began in mid-September to allow for construction of a new upper commercial drive. As the old drive started to come down, the new, lower-level commercial lane opened inside the three story garage to accommodate taxis, limos, ride-app users, and shuttles. Bright orange signage along every path and corridor help to direct passengers to the new commercial vehicle pick-up and drop-off lane. 

MEM on the Move: Upper inner departures drive and A & C crosswalks reopened; B remains closed

Construction for Memphis International Airport’s Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program (TMSP) project affecting the upper inner departures lane has been completed.

However, as of September 2025, the B crosswalk is CLOSED due to demolition and construction on the upper outer drive.

MEM on the Move: Construction to affect airport crosswalk access, departure drop-off starting June 4

Ongoing construction for Memphis International Airport’s Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program (TMSP) project will affect pedestrian crosswalk access and departure level entrances beginning Wednesday, June 4.  Starting June 4, pedestrians entering the airport from the departures/ticketing level will need to utilize the crosswalks at the A and C terminals to enter the terminal.

MEM on the Move: New commercial ground transportation lane construction now underway

Construction has begun on the creation of the new commercial ground transportation lane outside baggage claim. Due to the active construction and barriers that are in place, passengers should only utilize crosswalks when walking to and from the terminal. This phase is expected to be completed in mid-December.
